Producing our hand cooked Kettle Chips requires approx. 3,000 acres of land. Through active local supplier engagement, most of our potatoes are grown locally, sourcing within an average radius of 50 miles from our manufacturing facility at Norwich, each season.
However, climate change is starting to take effect on crop yields. Our producers are experiencing longer periods of hot and dry or cold and wet growing conditions. Ensuring our supply chain stays local, Valeo Foods actively works alongside our producers to counter these environmental effects.
Our agricultural team are currently working with one of our larger suppliers, reviewing trickle irrigation systems. Once operational, the system requires a much lower, but targeted volume of water, resulting in lower energy and labour costs. Notwithstanding the local carbon and cost incentives, it helps create more robust varieties that are drought tolerant and pest and disease resistant product.
By actively engaging with our local supply chain, we are keeping our supply chain costs and carbon low, supporting local businesses, increasing supply chain resilience and maintaining high quality raw materials.
At Valeo Foods, working with our producers enables our business to better manage our supply chain carbon impact and increase our resilience as a business.
